The wisdom of hands and hearts,
paid forward to a new generation.
Heirloom connects parents with experienced older adults who teach kids the real-life skills schools no longer cover — baking, gardening, woodworking, writing — for a fair hourly rate.
For parents finding a mentor and elders ready to teach.
Parents are always present
Every session, without exception. This is not a drop-off service.
Background-checked
Every mentor passes a check and reference review, re-run yearly.
Free meet & greet first
A 15-minute video call before any paid session. No pressure if it's not the right fit.
Skills to share
A small taste of the crafts mentors are bringing.
Baking
Sourdough, pastries, family secrets.
Woodworking
Joinery, sanding, birdhouse builds.
Gardening
Heirloom tomatoes, soil, herbs.
Writing
Penmanship, poetry, storytelling.
A bridge between generations.

How we vet every mentor.
You're trusting us with the person who sits across from your child. We take that seriously. Every mentor on Heirloom clears the same process before they ever appear in search.

Identity verification
Government-issued photo ID matched to a live selfie. No anonymous accounts, no stand-ins.
- 02
Criminal background check
Nationwide and county-level criminal records, sex offender registry, and global watchlist screening through our partner Checkr. Re-run annually.
- 03
Reference calls
We speak with two non-family references by phone — former colleagues, students, or community members who can vouch for how they work with kids.
- 04
In-person interview
A Heirloom team member visits the mentor's home or workshop, meets them face-to-face, and confirms the space is safe and suitable for a child.

Ongoing accountability
Every session can be reviewed and reported by the parent. Any concern — even a small one — is investigated within 24 hours.

"Watching a child center their first lump of clay — it's like seeing the world through new eyes again. And the extra income lets me keep the studio kiln running."
