An older adult's hands guiding a child's hands while kneading bread dough
Intergenerational · Paid · In-person

The wisdom of hands and hearts, paid forward to a new generation.

Heirloom connects parents with experienced older adults who teach kids the real-life skills schools no longer cover — baking, gardening, woodworking, writing — for a fair hourly rate.

Trust & safety

How we vet every mentor.

You're trusting us with the person who sits across from your child. We take that seriously. Every mentor on Heirloom clears the same process before they ever appear in search.

  1. 01

    Identity verification

Government-issued photo ID matched to a live selfie. No anonymous accounts, no stand-ins.

  2. 02

    Criminal background check

Nationwide and county-level criminal records, sex offender registry, and global watchlist screening through our partner Checkr. Re-run annually.

  3. 03

    Reference calls

We speak with two non-family references by phone — former colleagues, students, or community members who can vouch for how they work with kids.

  4. 04

    In-person interview

A Heirloom team member visits the mentor's home or workshop, meets them face-to-face, and confirms the space is safe and suitable for a child.

  5. 05

    Ongoing accountability

Every session can be reviewed and reported by the parent. Any concern — even a small one — is investigated within 24 hours.

  6. 06

    First session, your call

Free 15-minute meet & greet before you book. If anything feels off, you walk away. No charge, no questions.
